Petgeia is a mobile app-based urinary diagnostic software for pets. It is your family vet, without having to visit one.
Pets are like family; all owners want to offer them a healthy and happy life. But just like us, they fall sick and grow old. Being able to make early diagnoses, have regular check-ups, is key to a happier and longer life for our pets. When severe symptoms start showing, we realise how much they suffer, and wish we could have done more.
HygeiaTouch – Petgeia’s parent company – developed a fibre-based diagnostic device that can be used with very small urine sample volumes for easy use.
They also developed a smartphone application that can analyse urine test colorimetric results in order to offer more accuracy to overcome human-eye shortcomings, as well as a diagnostic kit to diagnose urolithiasis, cystitis, and urinary tract infection and establish standard diagnostic concentrations for pets.
They have spent almost a year developing a urinary diagnostic device for pets, and they strongly believe that Petgeia will benefit not only pets but also pet owners and veterinarians in the near future.
To understand the importance of these devices, feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) can affect cats’ urinary bladder/urethra. Symptoms include bloody/cloudy urine, loss of bladder control, constant licking of urine opening, and urinating outside of litter box, contributing to a variety of problems such as inflammation of the bladder (cystitis) or urethra, formation of urinary crystals/stones in the bladder (crystalluria/urolithiasis), and/or partial or total obstruction of the urethra. Urinary tract obstruction is also referred to as plugged-penis syndrome in male cats and dogs. Complete urethral obstruction can be fatal if left untreated. According to statistics, FLUTD affects 30% of all domestic cats, the first infections starting between 2-6 years of age. About 10%-20% of these pets develop recurring problems with FLUTD if the correct preventative measures are not taken.
